- I learned Transcendental Meditation in 1969 and became a TM teacher in 1972. In 1975 I experienced an abrupt shift of consciousness into the Silence that permeates all Creation. I saw that the mystics have it right. I also found the experience extremely challenging mentally, emotionally, and physically. Thirty years later I am still trying to understand consciousness from both Western and Eastern points of view. I have a PhD from Georgia State University in molecular genetics, so the day job defines me as a scientist. Outside of work I lean more to the mystical. In “Seeing for My Self” I hope to share something of the problems I've encountered and the lessons I have learned. "Silence: A Gallery" is my second blog. Traditionally, the Silence of Zen mind has been expressed by the skilled calligraphers. Curiously, my Taoist practice activates regions of the brain where gesture evolved into language. This lets me tie my meditation into movement into art that I hope offers some sense of Silence. Thanks for dropping by.
